The transition towards a low-carbon industry is accelerating in Normandy. In recent months, several major investments announced across the region have highlighted Normandy’s ability to combine industrial performance and technological innovation, coupled with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Three projects recently unveiled by international industrial players reflect this momentum:
- In the Manche County, Cargill, a supplier of food products, ingredients, agricultural solutions, and sustainable industrial products, announced a €25 million investment at its Baupte site to modernise a particularly energy-intensive industrial process. By integrating mechanical vapor recompression technology, the company expects to reduce the site’s CO₂ emissions by up to 45%, at the same time as improving its energy efficiency.
- In Seine-Maritime, the Nestlé plant in Dieppe continues its transformation toward a more sustainable industrial model. The site, which specialises in instant coffee production, is benefiting from ongoing investments aimed at reducing its energy consumption and carbon emissions. This strategy is part of Nestlé’sbroader goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
- In the Orne County, Akiolis, a company specialising in rendering and the recovery of animal by-products from the agri-food and livestock sectors, inaugurated France’s first cogeneration facility using animal meal as fuel. This innovation simultaneously produces industrial steam and green electricity from rendering by-products, illustrating the potential of the circular economy applied to industry.
These three examples reflect the diversity of solutions being deployed in Normandy to decarbonize industrial activities: energy efficiency, resource recovery, process electrification, and the circular economy.
They also demonstrate the region’s attractiveness for investments linked to ecological transition. Thanks to its industrial network, energy infrastructure, technological expertise, and the commitment of both public and private stakeholders, Normandy is establishing itself as one of France’s most dynamic regions in the development of a competitive, decarbonised industry.
Today, decarbonisation is an industrial reality in Normandy.
