In Dieppe, ETRIA Manufacturing, formerly Toshiba, is opening a new chapter in its history. Behind this change of identity lies a major development for Normandy’s industrial sector: the integration of the site into an international joint venture bringing together the Japanese groups Ricoh and Toshiba Tec.
This transformation confirms the strategic role of the Dieppe facility within European industrial value chains and further strengthens Normandy’s presence in international markets.
A Normandy Site at the Heart of a Global Organisation
Since 1 July 2024, the Dieppe facility has operated as ETRIA Manufacturing France, joining an international industrial network comprising twelve sites across Asia, Europe and the United States. Significantly, the Normandy facility remains the only French site within this new global organisation.
This position gives Normandy a key role in the group’s European operations. The site is responsible for the configuration and distribution of printing solutions for the European market while also producing nearly 1,000 tonnes of toner annually for several international markets.
A Driver of Employment and Industrial Expertise
With approximately 220 – 230 employees and annual revenue of around €32 million, ETRIA Manufacturing is a major industrial employer in the Dieppe area.
Beyond its direct workforce, the company supports a network of subcontractors, logistics providers and regional industrial partners. Its activities now encompass manufacturing, assembly, logistics, repair, refurbishment and a range of high value-added services, illustrating the ongoing diversification of Normandy’s industrial sector towards more resilient business models.
In addition to the industrial expansion driven by ETRIA Manufacturing, the project could generate significant employment benefits for the region. The development of new activities at the Dieppe site is expected to lead to the recruitment or redeployment of between 100 and 130 people.
This growth would represent a substantial increase in headcount and further strengthen the site’s economic contribution to the Dieppe employment area.
Industry of the Future as a Competitive Advantage
The transformation undertaken by the Dieppe facility over recent years demonstrates the ability of Normandy’s industrial sector to innovate and adapt. Awarded the “Industry of the Future Showcase” label, the site has carried out a comprehensive modernisation of its industrial processes and digital systems.
This strategy has enhanced operational performance while strengthening the site’s competitiveness in international markets. It has also helped retain high value-added industrial activities and specialised technical expertise in Normandy.
Environmental Performance and Economic Competitiveness
ETRIA also illustrates the growing convergence between environmental transition and economic performance. Through a series of investments made in recent years, the site has reduced electricity consumption on its production lines by 25% and cut gas consumption by 70–80% through industrial heat recovery systems.
These achievements demonstrate that environmental performance is now a key driver of industrial competitiveness and territorial attractiveness.
A Positive Signal for Normandy’s Industrial Attractiveness
The evolution of ETRIA Manufacturing highlights Normandy’s ability to attract and develop high value-added international industrial activities. Its location near Dieppe and major regional logistics corridors, its recognised industrial expertise and its commitment to the Industry of the Future all contribute to strengthening the region’s reputation as a leading location for manufacturing, innovation and exports.
At a time when industrial reindustrialisation has become a national priority in France, the retention and expansion of a strategic site such as ETRIA Manufacturing sends a positive signal
Normandy’s economy and enhances the region’s attractiveness to international investors.
